It emerged that she was bisexual and had fallen in love with her publisher's wife, Ellen Doubleday. After du Maurier died in 1989, her biographers were able to be truthful about her life. Some of the reasons might include secret source codes being hidden in the text during World War II, but they were apparently never used due to the belief that security was compromised. A true classic of suspense in a beautiful new package. This novel is found on the ALA's top 100 Banned or Challenged classics list. Rebecca is a gothic tale full of lush language and suspenseful mystery it is the story of a young woman haunted by the ever present reminders of her husband's first wife.
